Support Monastic Education

Ordination is an important life choice. For children who enter monastic life at a young age, what they need first is a safe and stable environment in which to grow, together with a good education and proper guidance.

Many of the young monks we support come from remote villages in Nepal and other Himalayan regions. Because of limited economic and educational opportunities in these areas, some children would otherwise have little access to a stable and systematic education. We hope to provide them with a place where they can live, learn, and practice during these important years of their development.

Their education includes not only Buddhist scriptures, Buddhist philosophy, rituals, and spiritual practice, but also basic academic subjects such as languages, mathematics, and social studies. Our goal is to help them build a strong foundation in the Dharma while also developing the knowledge and skills they will need as they grow.

When they reach adulthood, they are free to make their own choices about the path ahead. Buddhism allows monastics to return to lay life and, under appropriate conditions, to seek ordination again. If they choose to return to society, the Buddhist and general education they received during their childhood and youth can continue to serve them throughout their lives—helping them become independent, face life's challenges, and bring the values of compassion, wisdom, and the Dharma into their families and communities.

For those who choose to continue monastic life, we hope to provide opportunities for deeper and more comprehensive training. After completing a systematic education in Tibetan Buddhism, we also hope to create opportunities for them to study Chinese Buddhist scriptures, precepts, meditation traditions, and Buddhist culture, giving them a broader understanding of different Buddhist traditions.

Our long-term vision is to cultivate a new generation of well-educated monastics and Dharma teachers with a strong foundation in Buddhist teachings, genuine experience in practice, and an international perspective—individuals who can reach across cultures and traditions and share the Buddha’s teachings with people around the world.

Whatever path they choose in the future, a good education can change the course of a life.

And the growth of one well-trained monastic

may carry the Dharma to many more lives in the generations to come.
